A 43-year-old New Jersey man was drunk when he crashed a utility terrain vehicle into a lake at a private former mining site, killing another occupant of the UTV, authorities said.
Stephen J. McGuire, of Howell, was charged with vehicular homicide Tuesday after a test showed he had a blood alcohol content of .127 on the night of the Dec. 12 crash at Heritage Minerals Mine in Manchester, according the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. The legal limit is .08.
James Grover, 62, of Howell, was still attached to the UTV a larger version of an all-terrain vehicle that can hold multiple people by his safety harness when divers found it overturned and submerged in 25 feet of water. Grover was pronounced dead at the scene. ....

Ocean County drownings at beach & mining 'blue hole', police say

Ocean County authorities have confirmed the deaths of two different people in what appeared to be separate drowning incidents Saturday.
The first involved Toms River Police, who responded around 6 a.m. to reports of a woman s body that washed ashore in the Ocean Beach section of the township.
Police identified the body as that of 43-year-old Jennifer Jack, of Lavallette.
The Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Jack s cause of death to be drowning and the Ocean County Prosecutor s office said there was no evidence to suggest there was any foul play or criminal activity involved in this unfortunate incident, while the death did remain under investigation. ....

One person died after an off-roading vehicle with four occupants overturned this weekend into a Jersey Shore lake that became popular on TikTok.
Earlier this year, one person drowned at the same, privately-owned former mining property in Ocean County.
The incident occurred Saturday evening, when the utility terrain vehicle overturned and became submerged in 25 feet of water James Grover, 62, still attached by his seatbelt,
