Newham to roll out green vehicle fleet as part of £20m plans

The council is switching to greener vehicles as part of £20m plans to clean up its fleet.

The town hall has approved plans to replace council vehicles with greener models.
Newham Council will change from its current leasing agreements and start replacing its fleet with 170 vans and 40 mini-buses which are either fully electric, hybrid or gas to liquid fuelled.
Cllr James Asser said: The replacement vehicles offer positive benefits to air quality in the borough, they will consume less fuel and create less pollution.
The cost of the new vehicles is in line with the current leasing arrangements and with a high number of our vehicle leases expiring this year now is the right time to begin the changes. ....

Automatic number plate recognition cameras are in place at the junction of Little Ilford Lane and Romford Road in Manor Park, among other locations, to catch drivers who ignore no entry and one-way signs.

Traffic cameras are being installed at junctions across Newham where drivers frequently ignore no entry and one-way signs.
Following concerns raised by residents and police, a council traffic survey identified 25 hotspot areas where road signs are being ignored more than a hundred times a day on average.
Under the moving traffic contraventions (MTC) programme, drivers ignoring signs at these locations will be caught on camera and posted a fine. ....

Newham Council respond to concerns over drivers ignoring road signs
 
Newham Council are taking action against drivers who cause a danger on our streets by ignoring road traffic signs such as ‘no entry’ and ‘one way’.
After residents and police raised concerns, a council traffic survey identified 25 hotspot areas in the borough where road traffic signs are being ignored more than a hundred times a day.
Now under the Moving Traffic Contraventions (MTC) Programme drivers already risking a fine by ignoring signs will be caught on CCTV at these locations and sent a fixed penalty notice.
