Bestbet began as a gambling facility/greyhound racing track in the 1980s at its first location on Race Track Road in northern St. Johns County. The site was vacated nearly a decade ago, even before Florida voters approved a ban on greyhound racing by constitutional amendment in 2018.
In an interview with The Record Monday, bestbet President Jamie Shelton said: The first card room to open in Northeast Florida was in St Johns County and the patrons always enjoyed the entertainment option provided.
The new facility will be built on 8-plus acres off S.R. 207. The company s other Northeast Florida locations in the Jacksonville neighborhood of Regency and Orange Park in Clay County offer poker and other card games; simulcast wagering on horse and greyhound racing; and jai alai.
