In a concerted effort to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.âs legacy, Feeding America, Kentuckyâs Heartland is participating in MLK Day of Service, the organization announced Thursday. According to the news release, MLK Day of Service, now in its 26th year, encourages Americans to improve communities through volunteerism. Feeding America will participate by holding special food distributions to underserved minority communities throughout its service area. Distributions are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 660 Knox Blvd. in Radcliff, hosted by Heritage International and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Elizabethtown Sports Park. âWe thought that providing extra assistance to those dealing with food insecurity was an ideal way to honor MLK,â Jamie Sizemore, Feeding America, Kentuckyâs Heartland executive director, said in the release. âMore people than ever are visiting food pantries and distributions, many for the first time, and we want to ....
Feeding America, KenÂtuckyâs Heartland has partnered with Hardin County Public Library to distribute unused magazines to Hardin County residents served by Feeding America. Magazines were left unused because of COVID-19 restrictions at the library. âWe want to do our part to help nourish the minds of our neighbors in Hardin County,â said Rene Hutcheson, library director, in a news release. âWe understand times are challenging for everyone and the number of families in need is increasing, especially now. We hope these magazines can bring a lift to someoneâs day.â Because of the pandemic, the release said patrons were not able to use the libraryâs leisurely reading section so hundreds of brand new magazines were left unused. In all, 896 new magazines will be handed out, in bundles of three or four, to those picking up food at some Hardin County Feeding America partner agencies and mobile food pantries. ....
