Tassie welcomes NBL teams for pre-season training
I’d like to extend a warm Tasmanian welcome to the two National Basketball League teams that have arrived in Tasmania to continue their pre-season training and preparation for the upcoming competition.
Players from the South East Melbourne Phoenix and SKY Sport New Zealand Breakers arrived in Hobart this morning, temporarily relocating from Melbourne.
Importantly, the NBL has strict COVID protocols in place which will apply for the players during their training sessions here in Tasmania and their travel is being managed in accordance with the current border restrictions required by Tasmania at our air and sea ports. ....

Fears for Hobart's summer horse racing events as Elwick track closes after damage

Tasmania s thoroughbred horse jockeys and trainers are not convinced the damaged track at Hobart s Elwick Racecourse can be fixed, saying a new track may need to be laid.

Jockeys and trainers are sceptical the track will be ready for Hobart s summer racing carnival
All thoroughbred racing at the track has been postponed until January 24.
The decision was made after concerns about the safety were raised when about 40 large divots were found on the track.
Horse trainer Brendan McShane is one of those who doubt the track can be repaired and certainly not in time for the next Hobart racing carnival on January 24. ....

Not even the sharpest clairvoyant could have predicted the pain and pressures of 2020.
In Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein s own oft-repeated words: I do not have a crystal ball.
Sitting down with the ABC this week, Mr Gutwein said the year had been difficult but that Tasmanians had shown enormous strength.
The Premier says approval ratings skyrocketed this year.
