'He Absolutely Deserves It': Texas Rangers Pick Starting Pitcher For Spring Opener - Sports Illustrated Texas Rangers News, Analysis and More

Feb 26, 2021
Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward has announced the first four starters when Cactus League action begins Sunday. When the Rangers and Royals meet at Surprise Stadium, Wes Benjamin will be the first to take the ball for Texas.
He s started for us. He s been here. He absolutely deserves it, Woodward said.
In reality, getting the nod to start the first game of Cactus League action isn t a true revelation of how the rotation will look come April 1 when the games count. Benjamin will only pitch one inning, which is not uncommon for the first several games of the spring. ....

Texas Rangers Top Prospect On Opening-Day Roster? Decision Time; Spring Training Notebook - Sports Illustrated Texas Rangers News, Analysis and More

Josh Jung Unlikely to Make Opening Day Roster
Josh Jung, the Rangers No. 1 prospect on MLB Pipeline and Baseball America, is participating in his first big league camp. As a prospect with such pedigree, there is obvious excitement among the club and fans alike of when Jung will make his major league debut.
In addition, the Rangers need a third baseman this season, and it just so happens that Jung plays third base.
So, is it possible Jung has a shot at making the Opening Day roster?
I don t want to say it out loud, like, what it would take for that to happen, Woodward said with a chuckle. No. I would say probably not.  ....

So, yeah, Elvis Andrus was traded today to the Oakland A’s, and the Texas Rangers got Khris Davis back as the major league name everyone knows about, along with catcher Jonah Heim and pitcher Dane Acker. Catcher Aramis Garcia went to the A’s in this deal as well.
Having had a little time to digest and absorb what is being said, I wanted to offer up a few more thoughts.
I said initially I thought Khris Davis was likely being designated for assignment imminently, the way the Rangers DFA’d Austin Jackson, whose contract they took on to get Jason Bahr, a couple of years ago. But that’s apparently not happening. Jon Daniels didn’t exactly give Davis a ringing endorsement today, or guarantee him a roster spot, but he did indicate that they expected to bring him to camp and have him compete for a job. He made a point of differentiating this from the Jackson trad ....

Texas Rangers 2021 Top 50 Prospects

The Texas Rangers are in a transition stage right now. They’ve had a few decent seasons, but the majority have been less than .500. The past 3 seasons alone saw a 67-95 record, 78-84 the year after, and a 22-38 record in a COVID hit season. There has been a small influx of prospects making their way into the Majors roster over the past couple of years. A new GM, some trades likely to come up, and a few FA signings could see things change dramatically for the 2021 season.
I hope you all enjoy our dive into the Top 50 for the Rangers!
