Readers who were savvy to the Utah music scene in the 90s and early 00s may remember the stalwart musical act Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons, a band with a rotating cast of members, all centered around the illustrious and ambitious Joseph. A transplant to the area in 1996, Joseph would go on to put out solo albums in tandem with his band s records, spending the bulk of the years after the millennium wandering among different tours, bands and recording projects, dotting almost every year of the past two decades. Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra President and CEO Dr. Keith Cerny and Board Chair Mercedes T. Bass today announced the appointment of conductor Robert Spano as the orchestra’s next Music Director. His initial three-year term will begin with the 2022–23 season. Having worked with the orchestra as Principal Guest Conductor since 2019, Robert Spano will become Music Director Designate on April 1, 2021, and will serve in this capacity until assuming the title of Music Director on Aug. 1, 2022. ....

Award funds community engagement in Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor
The University of Georgia’s Willson Center for Humanities and Arts has received a $1 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to partner with Penn Center, one of the nation’s most important institutions of African American culture. The partnership will support education and sharing among communities in the Sea Islands region of the Southeastern United States and students from UGA and its partner institutions.
Located on St. Helena Island, one of the South Carolina Sea Islands, Penn Center is a nonprofit organization committed to African American education, community development and social justice. It also serves as a gathering place for meetings, educational institutions and planning activities within the Sea Island Gullah Geechee communities. ....
