The three victims killed in a shooting rampage Saturday have been identified as family and friends reel from the senseless loss of their loved ones.
A doorwoman, a college student, and a convenience store shopper were all shot and killed at random.
The victims were identified as Anthony Faulkner, Aisha Johnson and Yiran Fan.
Seven people in total were shot, and the gunman was killed in a police-involved shooting in Evanston, officials said.
Surveillance video outside a South Side convenience store captured the final moments of Faulkner’s life. He had recently moved back to Chicago from Minnesota, his cousin said, looking for a fresh start after he lost his job in the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

A Chinese student was killed in Chicago, United States, by a lone shooter in a rampage on Saturday that left at least three people dead.
Seven people were shot in the hourslong shooting spree that started in the south of the city and ended in Evanston, Illinois, around 20 kilometers north.
Four of the victims were in critical condition. The suspect, identified as Jason Nightengale, 32, was shot and killed by police after a shootout in Evanston.
The first victim was a University of Chicago postgraduate student who was shot just before 2 pm on Saturday in a parking garage at an apartment complex, according to the Chicago Police Department. ....

Fourth Victim in Shooting Rampage Spanning From Chicago to Evanston Dies

That man, who was identified as Yiran Fan, 30, a University Chicago doctoral student, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Chicago police.
Approximately 30 minutes later, Nightengale entered an apartment building in the 4900 block of South East End Avenue. He fired shots at a woman, who was serving as a security guard at the building. The victim, Aisha Nevell, 46, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Another woman, 77, was inside the building retrieving her mail when she was hit by gunfire. She is in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. ....

Victim's Family Questions Chicago Police Response to Weekend Shooting Rampage

I don t [know] why this man did this to my child, I really don t understand it, Faulkner s mother, Georgia Evans, told NBC 5 Monday.
Footage from inside the convenience store showed Nightengale shoot Faulkner in the head. Faulkner s brother was outside the store at the time of the shooting, unaware of what was going on.
If my other would have been inside, [he] probably would have shot both of them, Evans said.
Minutes later, Nightengale got into a car and was seen shooting at more people as he drove away.
Police on Sunday continued to investigate why a gunman went on a shooting spree in Chicago and Evanston, killing three people and injuring several others. NBC 5 s Christian Farr reports. ....
