Prisoner who claimed terror and torture in jail placed in solitary confinement

A prisoner who made claims about systematic terror, fear and torture at the Corradino Correctional Facility has been placed in solitary confinement and banned from communicating with anyone outside prison.
Brian Vella, 41, filed a fresh application in the Criminal Court on Monday claiming more inhumane treatment sparked by last week s claims and asked the court to order his transfer to the Forensic Ward at Mount Carmel Hospital.
He said that after he filed his first application last week, his cell was searched in his absence and he was stopped from using the prison telephone to communicate with his relatives. He was also transferred to a division where prisoners are usually sent as a punishment where he was placed in solitary confinement. He is only allowed to emerge from his cell for one hour a day. ....

A double murderer has asked the courts to launch a magisterial inquiry into what he claims is systematic terror, fear and torture that he and other prisoners are enduring in prison.
Brian Vella, 41, filed an application to the Criminal Court claiming inhumane treatment at Corradino Correctional Facility, targeting him and other prisoners.
He also drew attention to the possibility that a crime was committed within the facility in September 2018.
Through his lawyer, Jason Grima, Vella explained that he had been in jail for 21 years and that the management of CCF was never as bad as under the present administration. ....

The Correctional Services Agency has denied claims of terror and torture in a brief statement on Saturday after a double murderer filed an application claiming inhumane treatment at Corradino Correctional Facility, targeting him and other prisoners.
“The agency categorically denies these allegations,” the spokesman said on Saturday with reference to the application, adding it would be providing all evidence in court in connection to the case.

Three in court over Ħamrun fight

Three men ended up in court on Thursday pleading not guilty to their involvement in a violent street fight at Ħamrun on Tuesday night, in which a fourth man was grievously injured and robbed of his mobile phones.
Marwan Alshamari, 27, and Alhasan Taha, 23, both Syrian-born, living at Ħamrun and Santa Venera respectively, were arraigned first, jointly charged with aggravated theft and holding their alleged victim against his will during the violent incident that broke out at 11pm in Triq Ġużè Pace.
Alshamari was separately charged with grievously injuring the victim without intending to kill or place his life in manifest danger. ....
