Bars and restaurants were allowed to fully reopen on Friday, and Washingtonians were so there for it. Whether it was a crowded Bullpen, long lines for 14th Street bars, or the long, long-awaited chance to sit at a bar, people were out all over town for a taste of the Before Times.

The inequity between what her children have and what they deserve grows wider each year, as every Mother’s Day since 2017 marks the death of a parent they’ll never know.
Sharayne Holland’s younger child, now four, is old enough to express exasperation, and increasingly, the beginnings of painful dissatisfaction. He can only adore pictures of his mother and does not understand why she ceases to exist in flesh and blood.
“ I don’t want to keep kissing this picture, ” Pharaoh s grandparents recounted, as he protested to his sister, Zahara. “ I want to hug, and touch Mommy. ”
That brings some comfort to DC resident Bridget Alzheimer.
“I’m more nervous than I was during the summer with the Black Lives Matter protests, Alzheimer said. I never felt unsafe during that, and I definitely since what happened at the Capitol, feel a little more nervous.
Fifth district commander William Fitzgerald said one of his biggest concerns especially based on where his district is situated is with traffic thoroughfares throughout the city.
“Specifically New York Ave, Rhode Island Ave, getting people in and out of the city, Commander Fitzgerald said. There is a plan in place if the metro does shut down to get people out. There’s a plan in place if something happens downtown, getting people out of the city … there’s a lot of contingencies.
