Pennsylvania lawmakers are making another push to raise the state’s minimum wage.Acting Pennsylvania Labor and Industry Secretary Jennifer Berrier and some state lawmakers spoke out about the issue on Tuesday. They want the wage increased to $12-an-hour immediately, with a goal of $15-an-hour by the year 2027.The current minimum wage is $7.25.“$7.25-an-hour is not acceptable to pay our essential workers, individuals who work hard and put their lives at risk to take care of our loved ones. Now is the time to raise the wage. I urge the General Assembly to pass legislation. It s time to do what s right. Let s make sure these individuals earn a living wage,” said Berrier. ....
Court documents are revealing new information about a fatal shooting that happened at a Mountville, Lancaster County, home.The shooting happened Friday night along Hillside Drive. Court documents show that Cherrelle Byrd told police she shot Richard Williams during a fight over finances.The affidavit of probable cause states that Byrd and Williams son initially called police saying his father was intoxicated and fighting with his mom.Byrd said as Williams was about to leave, he then walked toward her and she fired one shot, hitting him, according to the affidavit.Williams was taken to the hospital, where he died. Byrd is charged with homicide. ....

Manheim Township’s Board of Commissioners is calling for Lancaster County to create a countywide health department. Board President Tom O’Brien says Lancaster County, home to more than half a million people, is the largest county in the state without a health department. “Most of the places that we talk to feel that the communications level, not only with the state, but on a one-to-one basis with each municipality, probably would be stronger if they knew each other, if they had experience with each other, and they had a plan in place,” O’Brien said.Currently municipalities and school districts deal directly with the state. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the county has hired a person to coordinate some aspects of public health response. ....
