Mayor Ryan Leckner, city council member Erika Randall and City Administrator Angel Weasner sat as the finance committee. Joining the discussion was Nicole Kirchner with the Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC), which leases the Armory from the city and subleases to the AAEC board. ....

After making a compromise with his parents to study industrial design at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Tavukciyan pivoted and followed his passion for art upon graduation diving into volunteering with the Vancouver Mural Festival in 2016. “It’s basically been snowballing since then,” Tavukciyan tells Daily Hive of his career as a professional artist. Fast forward to 2021, and he’s one of three artists that have been commissioned by Shaw Communications to create murals with a special impact celebrating this year’s Vancouver Sun Run. ....

The city closed on the purchase of the historic armory and its annex on May 19 of last year and has a lease agreement with the Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC), which sublets the property to the Park Rapids Armory Arts and Event Center (PRAAEC) to operate the facility as a cultural venue. ....
