Accidental death
LOCK HAVEN A 57-year-old Lock Haven man sustained fatal injuries after falling down the embankment on the levee trail in Castanea Township, state police at Lamar said.
Robert W. Benfield Sr. succumbed to head injuries at the scene on April 8 at 4:54 p.m., police said.
The death was ruled accidental.
Harassment
LOCK HAVEN Melody McCoy Witherite, 42, of Mill Hall, was sent a summons after being charge with harassment by Woodward Township Police.
Witherite allegedly sent another person 47 unwanted text messages, many of which contained lewd an obscene language, over a five-day period from April 7 to 9, police said.
The summons was filed at District Judge Keith Kibler’s office. ....

LOCK HAVEN Lock Haven City Police reported that a man sought in a Feb. 28 robbery was apprehended in Somerset County on Tuesday. Police had issued a warrant for the arrest of Torr Thomas Gray on March 1.
Police were looking for Gray following the incident on Feb. 28, when they say he entered a business on N. Vesper Street at 12:30 a.m. and encountered the 19-year-old victim. Police say that Gray grabbed ahold of the victim, threw him on the ground, punched him numerous times in the face and head, then stole his wallet. Police said Gray was identified through surveillance video. ....

The Williamsport Area School District is expected to receive almost $9 million as part of the $2.2 billion in federal stimulus funds being dedicated by the Wolf administration to help K-12 school districts and charter schools statewide provide much needed financial support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local districts and the amount of funds available are: Canton, $1,258,598; East Lycoming, $1,140,294; Jersey Shore Area, $1,871,138; Keystone Central, $5,316,886; Loyalsock Township, $945,113; Montgomery Area, $1,188,107; Montoursville Area, $1,057,830; Muncy, $872,147; South Williamsport Area, $1,278,274; Southern Tioga, $2,432,725; Warrior Run, $1,749,015; Wellsboro, $1,893,360; and Williamsport, $8,949,801.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, Arthur (Art) T. Searer, loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 95.
Art Was born on April 7, 1925 in Frankstown Township, to Emory and Rosetta (Campbell) Searer, and grew up in Lewistown. He served the U.S. Army from April 1946 through July 1947, where he was stationed in the Pacific, most notably, Korea. After serving his country and receiving an honorable discharge, Art returned to central Pennsylvania and became the proprietor of several Atlantic Service Stations in Harrisburg, as well as Town & Country Buick in Jersey Shore. While there, he was also one of the original founders of the Citizens Hose Company of Jersey Shore, now known as the Jersey Shore Area EMS. ....
