Restaurant found in contempt for defying COVID-19 order


“Each day the defendant remains in violation of the injunction, the health and welfare of the public are at risk and are being irreparably harmed,” Abrams wrote in his ruling.
Alibi co-owner Lisa Monet Zarza initially complied with the closure order, but later advertised the club would reopen Dec. 15.
Attorney General Keith Ellison sued the restaurant’s owners after it reopened, but it closed again after the state obtained a temporary restraining order. The owners reopened the establishment again on New Year’s Eve and have stayed open since.
Zarza’s attorney, Michael Padden, declined to comment on the judge’s order because he had not yet reviewed it. ....

LAKEVILLE, Minn. A Lakeville bar continues to thumb its nose at the state by remaining open even as the effort to shut them down plays out in court.
A show-cause hearing was held Tuesday, Jan. 5, in front of Dakota County District Judge Jerome Abrams over whether Alibi Drinkery, located in the city’s historic downtown area, is in contempt of court. It follows Abrams’ decision to hand down a temporary injunction on New Year’s Eve the same day the bar opened back up after complying for nine days with a Dec. 17 lawsuit filed by the state s attorney’s office to remain closed for indoor, on-premises dining through Jan. 10. ....

School District's 2nd Avenues For Hope Campaign concludes


Avenues for Hope campaign sees big donation for Twin Falls School District
The online fundraising campaign managed to secure over $7,000 which will go towards supplies and resources for local area students and families needs.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho — The Avenues For Hope Campaign launched in 2011 to help Idaho nonprofits and other organizations provide housing options and more resources. This year, the campaign raised $2,576,098 from over 5,000 donors.
This year marked the second time the Twin Falls School District participated in the program, and they ve seen plenty of community support.
It s been a very humbling experience for me, just seeing the outpouring and feeling the love and gratitude come towards these children and their families, says Becky Jaynes, the school district s At-Risk Coordinator. ....

Judge hears case of Lakeville bar open in defiance of governor s order

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (FOX 9) - Assistant Attorney General Elizabeth Odette laid out the state’s case against Lakeville bar Alibi Drinkery’s owner Lisa Monet Zarza in a court hearing in Dakota County Tuesday. 
Odette said the court can issue contempt by fines or imprisonment and that it is seeking fines.
