NYSC inaugurates COVID vanguard in Edo
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Edo state has inaugurated a COVID-19 vanguard to sensitise corps members on preventive measures against the infection.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream I, Abiodun Olubukola, Edo coordinator of NYSC, said corps members need to be enlightened as the country is witnessing a spike in infections.

“Your predecessors did a lot in combating the novel COVID-19 pandemic in the country through awareness campaigns and other necessary means,” Olubukola said.
“Corps members should not drop their guard as it is not yet over, especially now that the country is grappling with the third wave of the virus.” ....

The County representative of UNFPA, Ulla Elisabeth Mueller, on Tuesday declared that out of the estimated over 7.8 million population in Oyo State, the fifth most populous state in Nigeria. 17.1 per cent of women in the state have experienced physical violence since age 15.
Mueller added that 3.2 per cent have experienced sexual violence and 13 per cent have experienced spousal violence, adding that report from the state gender violence response team also showed a consistent increase in the number of women who report violence of all forms from 132 in 2019 to 768 in 2020 due to the lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic and its social and economic impacts and to 227 as at April 2021. ....

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said on Friday that his administration would track state contracts and recover state funds in the hands of contractors who failed to deliver projects.
The governor made the vow during an inspection tour of the newly renovated Jericho Nursing Home, Jericho, Ibadan, stating that the previous contractor handling the project did not complete the work.
According to him, under no circumstances would he allow the state’s fund to be frittered away. He said his administration would ensure that the people of the state get the desired value for their money. ....

Security agents to enforce civil servants’ stay-at-home order

The Federal Government has directed security agents manning the gates to government offices to ensure that only civil servants on grade levels 13 and above are granted access to the premises from Wednesday.
This is in compliance with the directive of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 that officers on GLs 12 and below should stay away from work for a period of five weeks as part of measures to curtail further spread of the virus.
