In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic irrevocably altered life in Pennsylvania and around the globe. As the virus emerged in the spring, life changed in ways no one could have foreseen or even conceived a year ago.

The magazine highlighted the fact that Welch, who had diabetes, continued giving clients rides to work and to the store even as infections rose in the community.
It also highlighted his recovery from addiction before earning a master’s degree in social work from Fordham University.
PEOPLE quoted a statement from Welch during his campaign for the Harrisburg school board: “I am running because I understand how education can completely change the trajectory of your life.”
His wife, Donna Welch, told the magazine, “One thing I admired about him he was brutally honest … He was straight up, wouldn’t sugar coat.” ....
