South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster suspended Swansea mayor Jerald Sanders. Swansea is south of Columbia. Sanders was suspended from his duties after he was indicted by a Lexington County grand jury on charges of embezzlement of public funds and misconduct in office.

Lexington Co., S.C. (WOLO)–The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office says a Midlands mayor is under indictment.
Attorney General Alan Wilson says a Lexington Co. grand jury indicted Swansea Mayor Jerald Sanders on charges of Embezzlement and Misconduct in Office.
According to the indictment, around December of 2019, Sanders embezzled funds by having checks for less than $10,000 written to him without authorization and then cashing those checks.
Sanders is also charged with misconduct in office. ....

SWANSEA, S.C. Swansea Mayor Jerald Sanders has been indicted by a state grand jury, accused of taking public money and transferring to an account that he managed.
The South Carolina Attorney General s Office announced Monday that a Lexington County Grand Jury indicted Sanders on charges of embezzlement of public funds less than $10,000 and misconduct in office.
The incident happened back in December of 2019. According to the indictment, Sanders wrongly accepted funds from the town and put the money into an account under his sole control.
Shortly after the indictment came down, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMastersuspended Sanders from office until the charges are dismissed or Sanders is convicted.
