More than 45 residents and city employees came together at Laguna Beach City Hall to formally recognize the city’s reemergence from COVID-19 restrictions and celebrate their post-pandemic lives on Tuesday.
Mayor Pro Tem Sue Kempf and long-time resident Denny Freidenrich met up for the friends and neighbors, many of whom hadn’t seen each other in the last 16 months, for the community group photograph.Â
Freidenrich asked for a moment of silence to remember the more than 600,000 Americans who have died after contracting COVID, more than 62,000 of whom were Californians. Of those, 5,099 people were from Orange County by Tuesday, according to the Orange County Healthcare Agency. He praised his neighbors for remaining calm during the unprecedented health crisis, despite the trauma everyone was experiencing.

The station, which covers the city of Laguna Beach and reaches the fringes of other south Orange County communities such as Dana Point, Corona del Mar, Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo, announced last week that its founder, Tyler Russell McCusker, would be stepping back from his role as general manager. Replacing him is Alyssa Hayek, an almost 15-year veteran of the air waves.
Hayek joined the nonprofit station in November 2018 after working for years at commercial radio stations, where she said she felt she was stifled in her creativity and ability to connect with her listeners.

Health chiefs are set to discuss the coronavirus situation in Middlesbrough as infection rates remain stubbornly high. And on Friday, it was confirmed by the council that a case of the South African variant of covid-19 had been detected in the town.
A pop-up testing centre was set up in a car park at the Parkway shopping centre and any adult that lives in Coulby Newham or Marton - or regular visitors to the centre - is strongly encouraged to go for a test.
10,000 poppies needed for Remembrance Day project in Cambridge
The Cambridge Poppy Project is reaching out to people who knit and crochet to make poppies for a special Remembrance Day display in the fall of 2021.
