With the majority of older adults in Moore County now vaccinated against COVID-19, the average age of hospitalized residents has decreased. At FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, the median age of COVID-19 patients was 69 when infections peaked in January. The median age for April was 61 as of Tuesday. âWe have seen a slight decrease in the median age of hospitalized COVID-19 patients, and we expect that trend to continue over the coming weeks,â said Jayne Lee, director of infection control and patient safety for the hospital. âWeâve seen a significant decrease in the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients from nursing homes, and most of the patients treated for COVID-19 over the last several weeks have been unvaccinated. In fact, all patients currently being treated for COVID-19 at Moore Regional are unvaccinated.â ....

School officials across the region said they remain upbeat as they continue to see signs of a shift back to the public school classroom. The enrollment tide is starting to turn in Baltimore County. The district began the school year down almost 4,000 students, but officials said the numbers are starting to pick up. We would anticipate that a lot of those folks would again return to their neighborhood schools, the places where they feel comfortable, the places where their friends are going, Baltimore County Public Schools spokesman Charlie Herndon said. ....

Weekly vaccine clinics are tentatively scheduled every Tuesday and Wednesday at the Fair Barn in Pinehurst through the summer; however, the number of doses available each week will be determined by the stateâs allocation process. ....
FirstHealth of the Carolinas began administering the second dose of Pfizerâs coronavirus vaccine on Thursday. Those receiving the shot include hospital front line staff and also medical providers from across Moore County. Jayne Lee, FirstHealth of the Carolinaâs director of infection control and patient safety, said vaccination clinics have been underway for prioritized staff who work in high-risk areas each weekday, twice a day, since December. As of Friday morning, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital has received 3,900 Pfizer doses and administered 2,124 doses. Systemwide, FirstHealth of the Carolinas has received 5,600 doses of both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and administered 2,054 doses. ....
