Live music brought crowds to Carlisle city centre - despite covid fears

Carlisle gets set to host its first ever Hawker Festival

The city centre event will take place between tomorrow and Sunday. It will be the first of its kind, featuring street food, seating areas and entertainment from local performers and musicians. Carlisle city councillor and Portfolio holder for Culture, Heritage and Leisure Stephen Higg, said: “I am delighted that we are able to re-start our events programme. “It is encouraging that local businesses are taking part and supporting this first-of-a-kind event in the city. “The weekend music and entertainment are a welcome platform for some great local talent, and the forecast for the weekend looks good too. “I hope that as many people as possible come out to enjoy the Hawker Festival and show their support for our high street.”

Marcus Rashford and chef Tom Kerridge unite for cooking tutorials on a budget

England footballer Marcus Rashford and Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge have joined forces with their celebrity friends to offer back-to-basics recipe ideas and culinary tips for low-income families to help tackle food poverty. The Manchester United striker, who last year forced the Government to extend free school meal provision for hard-up children, said he wanted the social-media based weekly tutorials – which will also feature famous faces from the worlds of sport, music and television – to inspire people to make easy but healthy meals on a budget. His latest campaign, named Full Time: Get Cooking With Marcus And Tom, launches this Sunday coincides with the Government’s Healthy Start payment scheme, which supports low-income households with grocery shopping.
