TsukuBlog PLUM crazy! Ibaraki`s Ume Trees in Bloom! 6 March, 2021 Walking to the Kasuga Community Center, I found myself enveloped in a sweet, warm and welcome fragrance. I knew what I would see even before I turned around – this large plum tree which had just burst into bloom! Plum blossoms outside the MAIE soba restaurant in Yasato. Note how pointy the peaks of Mt. Tsukuba look from that side (March 5, 2021) By Avi Landau When one uses the word HANAMI (花見, flower viewing) on its own, it is understood by native speakers of Japanese to refer ONLY to the viewing and enjoyment of blooming CHERRY BLOSSOMS- and not of any other flower. This clearly shows the high regard given to the fragile pink blossoms which have since the Heian Period symbolized the transient nature of all things, one of the cornerstone concepts of Japanese aesthetics and philosophy. Going to a meisho (名所, a famous place for viewing cherry blossoms) can reveal how the Ja ....
One more company to focus on in our tour of CO2 usage. It’s another electrofuels play called Prometheus Fuels using atmospheric CO2 using water, electricity, and nanotube membranes to produce commercially viable fuels. The project was one of two selected for investment in March of 2019 by Y Combinator, a prominent Silicon Valley business incubator, after requesting proposals which address carbon removal. In June 2020, BMW announced an investment of $12.5 million into Prometheus. A section of the official BMW website declared that “By perfecting existing chemical reactions and processes, Prometheus will make drop-in replacement fuels that are guilt-free. Prometheus will help to fuel the power of choice.” Now the Norwegian fund Tjuvholmen Ventures has also made an investment of undisclosed size. ....

Toxic masculinity is an interplanetary export in Doug Liman s Chaos Walking, in which the male population of human settlers experience a reaction to the environment of the New World that renders their every thought both audible and visible. The multihued blur of movement created around them by that unfiltered Noise at first had me wondering about a faulty link, or a possible need for picture adjustment on my TV. Not that the visual effects aren t slick, like everything else in this dour sci-fi saga. The issue is more that the information overload afflicting the men onscreen also infects the muddy storytelling from the start, failing to hook you into the characters or their plight. ....
James Ishmael Ford A few weeks ago, I received an invitation to review a new edition of a book by Alan Watts. Pretty good for an author who’s been dead for just shy of fifty years. As I poked through the manuscript, I found myself, not for the first time considering what an interesting thinker. And something more. Alan Watts almost perfectly captured the spiritual moment that was the 1960s. When I go back and look at his writings I am sometimes shocked at how often they must have been part of what has come to be how I see this world. ....
