Santa Rosa Mall in Mary Esther, Florida might include more new apartments

MARY ESTHER As part of a “very preliminary vision,” officials who oversee the Santa Rosa Mall are thinking of replacing a large rear section of the mall, including its food court, with hundreds of apartments.
If that happens, the displaced food court operators and some store operators would be able to move to other mall spaces that are currently vacant.
That’s according to Breck Kean, vice president of development for Rea Ventures Group of Atlanta.
Rea Ventures Group and the mall’s owner, New York City-based Radiant Partners, worked jointly to develop the new, 229-unit Renaissance Santa Rosa Apartments in the old Belk space on the mall’s northwest side. ....

States break silence to condemn Egypt’s abuses at UN rights body
Geneva, Switzerland Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from around the world expressed their strong support today for a joint declaration by UN member states condemning the human rights situation in Egypt which was delivered at the UN Human Rights Council. In the declaration governments expressed “deep concern” for widespread human rights violations committed with impunity by the Egyptian authorities.
The joint declaration, signed by 31 states and delivered by Finland at the Council’s 46th session highlighted “restrictions on freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly, the constrained space for civil society and political opposition.” It also condemned the use of counter-terrorism laws to punish peaceful critics. ....

NBI Properties of Fort Walton Beach to manage the Santa Rosa Mall

According to the mall’s website, the mall and its outparcels currently contain 47 tenants.
When the mall opened in 1976, it had 54 stores. But in recent years the shopping center lost several anchor stores such as Belk, Sears and JCPenney.
The new, 229-unit Renaissance Santa Rosa Apartments development stands in the old Belk space on the mall’s northwest side.
Barrett noted that he, Nabors and NBI Properties’ marketing manager Jennifer Stapleton are natives of Fort Walton Beach and spearheaded the ongoing revival of its downtown.
“Downtown Fort Walton Beach was a ghost town about 10 years ago,” Barrett said. “Now, you often can’t find a parking space there. We’ll use that same energy and passion to build up the mall. For us, (property management) is our business, but it’s also our passion. We want to see the mall thriving like it used to be. It’s going to be a place where all families can go and have fun.” ....
