State and local fire investigators continued work at the scene on Division Street in an effort to find the cause of the blaze. Investigators also indicated they’d identified the victim of the Saturday blaze and notified next of kin, but city police Sgt. Joseph Spencer declined to release the person’s name. Feb 1, 2021 AMSTERDAM At approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, Amsterdam Police and Amsterdam Fire were called to respond to the report of a structure fire with heavy smoke in the area of Guy Park Avenue and Genevieve Street in the city’s west end, according to a news release. Upon arrival, officers determined the source of the smoke and fire to be a nearby residence located at 363 Division St. Officers observed the second floor of the two- story home to be fully involved with visible flames escaping from the windows and rooftop. Neighbors who spotted the flames were able to assist two people in getting out of the building. ....
