When it comes to the connection between anthropogenic (human-caused) climate change and extreme weather, the gap gets smaller each year. There are clear links to drastic changes in hurricanes, floods, droughts, heat waves, fires, and winter extremes. What about severe weather? We don t hear much about bigger and more dangerous tornadoes. that s because the connection between a warming world and severe weather like thunderstorms and tornadoes is much wider than with the others. To dig into the details on this and find out what scientists do know relating to climate change and severe weather, I spoke with a leading expert in such research. ....
The Yukon phenomenon: record Whitehorse snow nearly 300 percent of normal Tyler Hamilton It snowed before Halloween, and it never really stopped snowing. As of April 5th, there s 70 cm of snow on the ground across Whitehorse, Yukon; for the city of 25,000, it s a tremendous amount – the most on record for April 4th. For reference, the snowpack usually peaks around 30 cm of snow, and by late April, the snow base remarkably diminishes to near zero. The sheer resiliency of the Yukon snowpack is quite peculiar. The region was even greeted by a rare atmospheric river back in early December. It s typical to get a meandering Jet Stream in La Niña conditions, along with above-normal precipitation across parts. The atmosphere essentially behaved like an El Niño for January, limiting the amount of frigid air available in the region; when the active storm track kicked in, excess moisture moved into Yukon. It rarely was too cold to snow. ....

Right now it s 52 at the airport, with the West Northwest wind at six. It was a little bit on the breezy side earlier, but things have settled down in that department. And, like I said, at the top of the show, temperatures will eventually dropped back into the twenties or thirties overnight tonight. But other than the temperatures, not a whole lot to talk about. There is one interesting hold on having a little stay with me. A little clicker issue. There we go. All right, so sometimes that happens. Sometimes the clicker sticks, you know it s live TV. That big storm out west is going to be our next chance for some precipitation. But that storm out around Denver is going to produce 20 inches of snow out there by the time it gets over to ....
Why the Denver snow won’t stop Updated: Tags: THIRD DAY OF MARCH BLIZZARD 3-20-2002 Neal Nixon of Coal Creek digs a pathway to his car near the intersection of Colorado Highway 72 and Twin Spruce Rd. in Coal Creek Canyon Thursday. Nixon was trying to free up his Kia Sephia sedan which was totally buried under snow so he could take his mother, Lori, to her wedding in Las Vegas on Saturday. She s pretty freaked out, admits Nixon.
