Princeton University President Christopher L. Eisgruber joined Princeton municipal officials Tuesday, March 30, to discuss mutual interests impacting the University and the community, highlighting their cooperation on planning and various relief initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual town-gown meeting was held on Zoom due to continuing pandemic-related health guidelines, bringing together Eisgruber with Princeton Mayor Mark Freda and Princeton Council members, albeit virtually.
“I have felt throughout my time as president of the University that it has been very important to keep channels of communication open between the town and the University,” Eisgruber said in his opening remarks. “That’s true, in general. I think it has been more true than ever over the past year as we have dealt with a set of unprecedented crises that have tested both town and University, and, I think created challenging leadership decisions for all of us.” ....

Dashield honored on retirement as Princeton administrator
If Princeton Municipal Administrator Marc Dashield thought he could retire very quietly, he was sadly mistaken when current and former Princeton Council members and municipal staff gathered online to send him off into the next chapter of his life.
Dashield, whose retirement took effect April 1, was praised for his good nature and calm presence by well-wishers that also included community members at the March 30 Zoom meeting.
Former Mayor Liz Lempert was the first of many to compliment and thank Dashield for his nearly six years of service in Princeton’s top administrative job. He was the second administrator of the newly created town that was formed in 2013 after the merger of the former Princeton Borough and former Princeton Township. ....

New positive cases of COVID-19 decline during February

New positive cases of COVID-19 decline during February
The second wave of COVID-19, which descended on Princeton in November, may have begun to taper off, as the daily number of new cases appears to have declined during the first few days of February.
The number of positive cases of COVID-19 peaked at 57 in April, and then declined steadily through the spring and summer. The numbers began to creep up in October, when 21 new cases were reported, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.
A sharp jump of 67 new positive cases in November was followed by an increase of 93 new cases in December. The numbers soared to 111 in January, the New Jersey Department of Health statistics showed. ....
