GARRETT â The trial of a Garrett woman who is accused of killing her husband has been rescheduled from September to March of 2022. Michelle Converset of the 1100 block of South Franklin Street, was arrested May 29, 2020, at 7:55 p.m. She is charged with murder and aggravated battery. Converset appeared in DeKalb Superior Court I for a final pre-trial conference Tuesday. Her five-day jury trial had been scheduled to begin Sept. 13. Judge Adam Squiller noted a defendantâs motion for continuance had been filed Tuesday. In the motion, Conversetâs attorneys, Jeffrey Terrill and Jeffrey Stineburg, said in preparation for the trial, the defense has hired an expert witness, Dr. Gregory Davis, to testify at trial. ....
Driver in 19 fatal crash to plead guilty JIM CHAPMAN | The Journal Gazette A Fort Wayne woman who admitted she recklessly caused a fatal crash would be placed on probation if a judge accepts a plea agreement. Jessica M. Hakes, 33, pleaded guilty Thursday in Allen Superior Court to criminal recklessness, a felony punishable by six months to 21/2 years in prison. She was to stand trial April 20. Hakes was involved in a crash that killed a motorcyclist just south of downtown Fort Wayne on July 1, 2019. A year later, police said she had THC – an ingredient found in marijuana – in her system when she drove her Honda HRV into the motorcycle s path on Lafayette Street, near Esmond Street. ....
