A Year of COVID-19 pandemic: From one to 38 deaths


In Barbados, in one year, 38 families have mourned the passing of a loved one as a result of COVID-19.
Today, March 15, the results for tests conducted on March 14, included one fatality. One person died from COVID-19, an 88-year-old Barbadian man with comorbidities who succumbed to the virus after spending 18 days at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility. 
The first COVID-related death in Barbados was reported on April 5, 2020. Just over two weeks after Barbados confirmed its first COVID-19 cases, the Minister of Health, Lt Col Jeffery Bostic made the disclosure during a national briefing. 
Bostic said the deceased is an 81-year-old Barbadian male who travelled to the United Kingdom and returned to the island on March 22, 2020. Both the deceased and his wife were tested on Saturday, April 4, after reportedly exhibiting symptoms of the virus. ....

Bostic issues stern warning to tourists and hotels

Minister of Health and Wellness Lieutenant Colonel Jeffery Bostic has declared that Government is taking the kids gloves off when it comes to tourists and hotels that do not follow the island’s COVID-19 protocols.
“Hotels that continue to flaunt the protocols as some have been doing will be removed or delisted from this list of designated quarantine hotels… perhaps as early as tomorrow that action will start,” he said at a press conference this evening.
Bostic said the situation had reached the point where Government would no longer tolerate the continued flaunting of the protocols. ....
