Nonprofit Hosting Hub To Connect Tulsa Tenants With Agencies Offering Financial Help
While the Biden administration has temporarily extended the eviction moratorium, Tulsa nonprofit Iron Gate is hosting a hub to connect tenants facing eviction with several agencies that can help them pay their bills.
Something that has been in the works for a while, this is obviously a crisis that has brought an opportunity,” Restore Hope Ministries Executive Director Jeff Jaynes said.
It’s an opportunity that puts several agencies that offer financial and legal help for tenants in one spot.
Jaynes said tenants can visit the hub before their eviction hearings, as it s just across the street from the court. Although the hub also helps those who are not facing evictions, Jaynes said the focus is to help those facing eviction. ....

Even though the CDC eviction moratorium is ending this weekend, there is help available to help tenants pay rent and utilities, so they won t have to worry about evictions.
Nonprofits like Restore Hope Ministries said just because the federal moratorium is ending, doesn t mean assistance is.
Landlord Scott Gordon hasn t evicted anyone since the start of the pandemic. He said with so much help out there, he doesn t see any reason for landlords to evict their tenants when the moratorium ends.
“I ask them, what can you pay, and I actually have lowered the rent on several of the units,” Gordon said. ....

The City of Tulsa and housing nonprofits are still trying to relocate residents of an apartment complex near 61st and Memorial a city councilor described as being like a third-world country.
Between moving costs, security deposits, temporary hotel stays and other relocation costs, relocating everyone left at Vista Shadow Mountain could cost more than $600,000. Under the latest Treasury Department guidance, it s possible some of the city’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program funding could be used toward that, but rental availability in the city is currently low. Most tenants at the complex paid market rates of between $700 and $1,400 a month.  ....
