A challenge over the legal competence of a new gender representation act has concluded at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
Campaigners For Women Scotland (FWS) raised concerns over the definition of the word “women” in the Gender Representation on Public Boards Act 2018, saying that the use of the term was an attempt to override the Equality Act 2010.
The legislation, which was passed two years ago, aimed to increase the number of women on public boards. ....

A group has sought a judicial review of a new Act, which aims to give public boards in Scotland 50/50 gender representation.
For Women Scotland (FWS) have brought the Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018 under review at a hearing on Thursday, claiming that the Act was outside the legislative competency of the Scottish Parliament. ....
