Independent candidate, Mike Rees, said one his biggest concern was the financial situation of the force in Wiltshire – often dubbed as one of the least funded in England.
He said that he will lobby the government for increased funding to increase police numbers in the county.
“Salisbury needs a Police station and custody unit. People say it can’t be done but if you don’t try, it will never happen,” added Mr Rees.
“The stresses of the job are causing sickness and mental health issues, and this further reduces Police numbers and causes morale issues.”

Labour's Junab Ali backed for PCC role by former Police Federation chairman

The former chairman of Wiltshire Police Federation has backed Labour candidate Junab Ali s bid for the Police and Crime Commissioner’s job.
Coun Ali is standing in the May 6 election as PCC Angus Macpherson s retires after nine years.
Mike White, who was an inspector in Wiltshire Police and chaired the officers’ federation, said: “As a former police officer I saw the damage that the Conservatives did to policing in Wiltshire over the past 10 years.
“There have been cuts to officer and staff numbers by over 20 per cent. Community policing was decimated.
“Junab is an excellent example of someone who can truly represent his community. His experience as a mayor of Swindon and councillor demonstrate he has the experience to connect with the community and represent their needs. ....

Green candidate promises to scrap Wiltshire PCC role if elected

The Green Party’s candidate for the Swindon & Wiltshire Police & Crime Commissioner office has promised to do away with the role if elected.
Brig Oubridge said he will work with his colleagues in parliament to push for a Wiltshire referendum on whether or not to abolish the office of PCC and revert to the previous Police Authority system.
Mr Oubridge added that if elected he would not take a single penny of the £85,000 salary – with the exception of expenses – and will instead use the cash to fund a diverse panel including representatives from across the political spectrum.
He said: “Overseeing policing is too important to be left in the hands of any one individual. ....
