Date Time Labour hire company fined after worker’s death Recruitment Select Pty Ltd pleaded guilty in the Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on Monday to a single charge of failing to provide and maintain a safe system of work. It was also ordered to pay costs of $10,438. The court heard the worker, who was employed by Recruitment Select, had commenced work at the timber mill in February 2018. But the company was unaware that the worker was later moved into a new role in a different section of the factory. In May 2018, the worker was removing rejected timber from a moulding machine when he was dragged into the unguarded shaft of a conveyor belt and pinned against a metal upright. ....
Date Time WorkWell Toolkit hits 10,000 Users The WorkWell Toolkit provides a step-by-step approach to help workplace leaders promote positive mental health and prevent mental injury by using tools and information tailored to their individual business. Launched in July 2018, the Toolkit has now reached the 10,000th user milestone after the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre signed up, joining workplaces of all sizes across 18 industries already taking part. Once registered, employers can access customised, practical resources such as case studies, policy examples, videos, tip sheets and templates covering the work-related factors that impact mental health. WorkSafe Executive Director of Health and Safety Julie Nielsen said it was fantastic to see so many employers taking up the challenge of improving the mental health of their workers. ....
