Denial over threat to marine life

Denial over ‘threat’ to marine life 3 Mins Read BEACH users at McCrae say the dredging process being used to “renourish” the sand is harmful to the environment and unlikely to be a long term solution to sand. Share THE Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning says methods of using 20,000 cubic metres of dredged sand to replenish McCrae beach are designed “to avoid impacting any marine values and coastal vegetation”. “Our marine biodiversity and natural environment team experts have confirmed there are no specific concerns relating to the project with regards to land-based coastal vegetation, the reef, or the plants and animals that inhabit it,” DELWP Port Phillip regional director Stephen Chapple said.

March4Justice: women tell us why they re protesting

Virginia Gordon, 60: ‘Why does no one care for our safety?’ Gordon told Crikey she saw Susan Ryan transform the workplace with the Sex Discrimination Act in 1984 and watched her own workplaces implement sexual harassment training sessions and appropriate processes to report sexual violence across the ’80s and ’90s. I am shell-shocked by the lack of action on the lack of safety for women at work, women at home and women in the community. How can it be 2021 and workplaces do not have in place the policies, mechanisms and practices to protect women as has been shown by the political horror stories which sicken me to the stomach. I spend a lot of time in Canberra and know well the “away from home” culture that “excuses” so much. It’s a workplace above everything and the total lack of leadership takes my breath away.

Utah County Commission approves conservation easement for Bridal Veil Falls

The Utah County Commission unanimously approved a conservation easement for Bridal Veil Falls on Wednesday, putting an end to discussions about private development at the iconic Utah County landmark. Outgoing Commissioner Nathan Ivie put forward the conservation easement on Nov. 18 in one of his last moves as county commissioner. The conservation easement is a deed between Utah County and Utah Open Lands, a Salt Lake City-based nonprofit that works with landowners on conservation efforts. The conservation easement still needs to be signed by the Utah Open Lands Board of Directors, which is expected to happen next week. The vote came after over three hours of discussion about the conservation easement and proposed private development of Bridal Veil Falls.
