The Irish chamber-pop princess talks with Tara Dougherty about her recent world tour, her second album and her innovative sound, which is breathing life into the contemporary Irish music scene. The first rounds of touring in foreign countries are daunting enough, but when an artist like Julie Feeney does it, there is an entirely different set of concerns other than those of the typical four-piece band. Editor The shortlist for this year s RTÉ Choice Music Prize for Best Album was announced earlier today. We take a look (and listen) back to the Irish Album of the Year winners over the past decade. Set up in 2005 by music manager Dave Reid and journalist Jim Carroll, the Choice Prize has become one of the highlights of the Irish musical calendar; it s awarded to the Irish Album of the Year, as chosen from a shortlist of ten releases by a panel comprised of twelve Irish music media professionals and industry experts. Department Of Music At UCC Receives Largest Gift In It s 113 Year History The estate of British Master Builder Sidney V. Regan has given €2 million to the department. He moved to Cork in the 1960s and was member of the Commodore Male Voice Choir in Cobh. The bequest will enable the Department to provide direct support to students and improve physical resourcing for performers, composers and academics. The COPE Foundation, Marymount Hospice, the Cork Deaf Association and the National Council for the Blind will also share a separate €200,000.
