Weltgrößter Kupferproduzent steigert Gewinn um mehr als 800 Prozent

Der eigenen Angaben zufolge weltgrößte Kupferproduzent Codelco hat seinen Gewinn im ersten Halbjahr 2021 um 868 Prozent gesteigert. Der chilenische Staatskonzern erwirtschaftete einen Erlös von 3,675 Milliarden US-Dollar für den Fiskus südamerikanischen Landes, wie der Präsident des Direktoriums, Juan Benavides, am Freitag mitteilte. Das war fast zehnmal soviel wie im Vorjahreszeitraum und das beste Ergebnis der vergangenen zehn Jahre.
Grund für den Gewinnsprung ist der zuletzt deutlich gestiegene Weltmarktpreis für Kupfer. Zudem erhöhte Codelco in den ersten sechs Monaten des Jahres seine Kupferproduktion um sieben Prozent auf 796 000 Tonnen. Das Staatsunternehmen ist mit einem Weltmarktanteil von acht Prozent nach eigenen Angaben der größte Kupferproduzent der Welt. Rund 13 Prozent der Exporte gehen nach Europa. ....

Light on the land and no more than necessary – these were the first principles that guided the development of a 400-square-foot bunkhouse adjacent to the iconic Decatur Island Cabin designed by Robert Hull, Miller Hull’s late founding partner, in 1986. A deep respect for the natural condition of the site drove all decisions made by the design team. By elevating the enclosed volume above the site, the building massing amplifies the sloping topography while minimizing site disturbance. Foundations were reduced to six-point loads puncturing the natural landscape. A timber exoskeleton pays homage to the neighboring cabin while supporting a simple “sleeve” of interior space. These rooms are arranged with sensitivity to exposure and views, allowing the bunkhouse to sit near the cabin while maintaining privacy. ....

All the talk about how green hydrogen will help heavy industries kick their fossil fuel habit is starting to turn into action in the biggest copper-producing nation.
An Anglo American Plc pilot project has been supplying the clean gas to a forklift at a waste facility in Chile for the past two months, with the London-based firm now eyeing transitioning other equipment and eventually large trucks, Chile manager Aaron Puna said. Antofagasta Plc is also looking into pilot projects to run equipment on hydrogen, Chief Executive Officer Ivan Arriagada said. Even Codelco, the giant state-owned producer, is making contact with companies with a view of introducing the fuel into its operations. ....
