Local political leaders release joint statement on Anti-Lockdown Protests

With plans for another weekend anti-lockdown protest circulating on social media, leaders in Peterborough are asking everyone to stay home.
A joint statement was released today by MP Maryam Monsef, MPP Dave Smith, Warden J. Murray Jones and Mayor Diane Therrien.
It reads:
Living with COVID-19 continues to be an incredible challenge. We would like to thank the vast majority of residents who have been following provincial emergency measures along with public health guidelines and making the personal sacrifices needed to protect each other. Staying home, practicing physical distancing, wearing masks and getting vaccinated are actions we must take to stay safe. We all want to see this pandemic end as soon as possible, and we must all work together to make that happen. There have been demonstrations in our community opposing the provincially mandated public health measures that have been put in place to help stop the spread of COVI ....

Peterborough County Warden Warns Province of COVID Vaccine Shortages


The Warden of Peterborough County is urging the province to send them more vaccines.
Warden J. Murray Jones says at the current time, the county does not have enough shots to meet their target of getting everyone over 60 vaccinated by the end of the month. He also highlighted the importance of getting vaccines to the county, citing a higher percentage of older people in the region, the high level of variant cases, and the number of visitors that arrive in the county every weekend.
They are asking the province for an additional 10,000 vaccines to help them meet their target. ....

Mayor Therrien, Warden Jones call on province for more vaccines for Peterborough


Peterborough’s Mayor and Peterborough County’s Warden are calling for more vaccines locally.
Diane Therrien and J. Murray Jones put out a joint-statement this morning, saying that there’s not enough vaccine allocated for Peterborough Public Health to have everyone over 60 vaccinated before the end of the stay-at-home order.
The pair cites that Peterborough has the highest percentage of older residents, at 24% compared to the provincial average of 16%, as well as variants of concern spreading throughout the community.
