Audit finds inaccuracies with NCDOT advance construction report  - Carolina Journal


The state auditor said in an examination released Wednesday, May 26, that the N.C. Department of Transportation’s sloppy record keeping led to inaccurate reports on advance construction.
That type of construction allows for road projects to be financed with federal highway money administered by the Federal Highway Administration in advance of receiving them. But Auditor Beth Wood’s team found a few issues with how NCDOT tracks the money.
For one, NCDOT’s advance construction report didn’t include all information required by state law, with the department explaining that some information wasn’t included because it “was difficult to obtain,” the auditor examination says.  ....

Free rides to vaccination sites available for those in need

The state of North Carolina is allocating approximately $2.5 million to pay for people s rides to COVID-19 vaccination sites. 
The money was provided from the NC Department of Transportation and the NC Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 relief funding. It was allocated to local transit agencies, and the money will last until each agency exhausts the funds.
The free rides are meant for people who have no form of transportation to vaccination sites and can also be used for people assisting others in receiving the vaccine, according to a press release from the NCDHHS.  ....

Nash County Public School officials announced Thursday that all students will return to hybrid-learning on March 22.
Students were slated to return on January 25, however, the decision was made in response to the rising COVID-19 cases in the area.
In the meantime, students will continue second-semester instruction in remote-learning.

The Wake County Health Department has confirmed its first COVID-19 outbreak at Phoenix Assisted Care located at 201 W. High St.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services defines an outbreak as two or more people - residents or employees - testing positive for the virus.
