Walking with Fr. Daniel Berrigan, S.J., A Criminal for Peace

Walking with Fr. Daniel Berrigan, S.J., A Criminal for Peace
Today is a day to celebrate the prophetic voice and witness of Fr. Daniel Berrigan, the non-violent anti-war activist and poet, whose life and witness has touched so many lives.  He was born on May 9, 1921 and would have been 100 years old today.  He died five years ago, but his spirit continues to animate and inspire so many others.  The following essay is from my recent book,
Seeking Truth in a Country of Lies.
Radical dissidents and prophets have never had an easy time of it.  When alive, that is.  Once safely dead, however, honors and respect are often heaped on their heads.  The dead can’t talk back, or so it is assumed.  Nor can they cause trouble. ....

The best poems: Poetry everyone should read

From the sonnets of William Shakespeare to the writings of Walt Whitman and the rejuvenating words of Amanda Gorman, poetry is indelibly writ into the fabric of not only popular culture, but the practice of storytelling itself. Poetry exists to communicate thoughts, feelings, hopes, and the depths of human experience otherwise rendered ineffable when pressed to conform to the shape of any other medium. National Poetry Month, established by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, was created for the express purpose of reminding us of that fact.
Here at Polygon, we love the arts not just the latest that television, games, and film have to offer, but any artform which brings us closer to understanding the lives and experiences of others and ourselves. So, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of National Poetry Month, we’ve come together to curate a list of a few of our favorite poems. Join us as we appreciate the poems that have shaped us. We encourage you to share so ....

This Smiling Door: A Review of Gavin Barrett's "Understan" – PRISM international

Gavin Barrett’s poetry collection
Understan takes the reader on a beautiful kaleidoscopic journey from Goa, India, throughout the various places he has lived, including Toronto and environs. The poems sojourn with his enduring love for his wife and his love for humanity. The poems in this multifaceted collection celebrate and satirize through lush description.
Understan manifests Barrett’s multiple influences from T.S. Eliot to Arun Kolatkar in poems inspired by family, faith (Catholicism), racism, and social injustice.
Barrett is the founder and co-curator of the east-end Toronto-based Tartan Turban Secret Readings, the focus of which is giving emerging visible minority writers a stage. The name of Barrett’s reading series acknowledges the multiple strands of his identity: born in Bombay (now Mumbai) of Anglo-Indian and Goan-East African parentage, he has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. Xavier’s College (in Bombay) and an M.A. in English Literatu ....

The Metaphysical Dream of BTS’ SUGA aka Min Yoon-gi
In Min Yoon-gi’s (BTS’ SUGA) music there’s a common idea floating of his dreams, even if he hasn’t identified them, or found a way to coexist with them peacefully.
Min Yoon-gi is a man with big dreams. Many of them have come true. He’s the persona, SUGA, in the extremely successful BTS. With BTS he tours all over the world, and of course, BTS was nominated for the Grammy Awards in 2020.
