Dominican Republic Batey Health Initiative continues addressing health care needs of Haitian migrant communities UMMS interprofessional team working remotely to address social determinants of health By Kylee Denesha April 09, 2021 An interprofessional team of Graduate School of Nursing and School of Medicine students and faculty have been working remotely this year to address social determinants of health in the Dominican Republic. Instead of traveling to the Dominican Republic to provide hands-on care this year, the UMMS interprofessional team is meeting virtually with Dominican Republic health promotors and nonprofit leaders. The UMass Medical School Dominican Republic Batey Health Initiative, now in its 15th year, kicked off its first virtual program last fall with the Population Health Clerkship, a two-week, team-based course for nursing and medical students, and is now running a spring optional enrichment elective, ....
