.- In 2020 Gallery Founder Jean-David Malat organised an open call exhibition entitled Isolation Mastered specifically to support emerging artists across the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic. Cornish painter Andrew Litten was one of the first artists chosen for the exhibition. The selection committee was unanimously impressed with his paintings. The members - key figures in the art world - felt that through his work Litten had captured the physical and emotional fragility exposed by the pandemic in a raw and visceral way. During the exhibition last July, Litten’s work clearly struck a chord with the visitors as well, so consequently the gallery offered him a solo show. ....

.-JD Malat Gallery will present Whiplines, Waterfalls and Worms, a solo exhibition by the legendary Post-War West Coast artist Ed Moses (1926 – 2018).
Opening on 4 February 2021, Whiplines, Waterfalls and Worms, presents a dynamic start to the year by bringing together the late works of Ed Moses. Born in Long Beach, California, Moses is renowned for his eclectic body of work which engages with the varying possibilities of abstraction. Moses was among the first generation of artists to be shown at Ferus Gallery, L.A., in 1957, where he started the ‘Cool School’ of artists which included Ed Ruscha, Robert Irwin, Larry Bell, Edward Kienholz, John Altoon, Ken Price and Billy Al Bengston. ....

New reality TV show searches for UK's next art superstar


From where will the UK’s next art superstar be discovered? Traditionally, market darlings are carefully crafted from a fine-tuned machine of dealers, critics and collectors, all reliant on the word of certain mouths. But as today’s art world increasingly professes to address issues of accessibility and anti-elitism, a new open-sourced reality TV competition on the London Live channel aims to provide a uniquely democratic platform to discover the next big thing in art.
“Auction houses and established artists are doing okay,” says James Nicholls, “but how can an emerging artist expect to get recognised now?”
The show was envisaged during lockdown by the TV presenter and Maddox Gallery chairman James Nicholls, who will serve as its host. “During the pandemic, the gallery has continued to make tremendous sales of investment art for ultra high net worth individuals,” he says. “But what about the young people?
