Laguna Beach Local News Last week, Jean Ardell, turned her column over to her husband, Dan. Dan started out with an autobiographical note about playing baseball for USC’s legendary baseball coach, Rod Dedeaux. Dedeaux’s teams’ records are unsurpassed in the history of College Baseball. For Dan Ardell to have started for Dedeaux and been drafted for the pros is quite an accomplishment. (When Dan Ardell played, getting to and sticking in the Majors had to do with talent, yes, plus a lot of other factors including whether someone like Willie Mays was playing for the Big League team that had drafted you.) ....
Laguna Beach Local News It’s a shame that Jean Ardell cannot write her own column, especially since her husband Dan is the only one to take her place. As to Ardell’s defense of his change to a left-wing Democrat, I can only feel sorrow for his choice. Using his own words, let’s change them to his new leaders: The Democrats have become the cult of Joe Biden. They stand for, among many other things: illegal immigration, unequal application of the law (just think Hunter Biden, Clapper and Brennan), high inflation, depletion of our energy sources, denigration of our history and its destruction, application of Critical Race Theory to our schools (soon to be applied to the Laguna Beach Unified School District), continual lies and denials in the American press (think Russian collusion), and so the list goes on and on. ....
Laguna Beach Local News I enjoyed reading a great column about the good kind of change by Jean Ardell in the Indy. She has great vision and deep knowledge about our history. Whenever I leave Laguna and go east, north or south, I am amazed how protected we are from the urban sprawl that surrounds us. We have always protected our open spaces from development. Yet never have so many developers spent so much money trying to convince residents to change our zoning and other regulations that have taken us decades to adopt. These help assure we stay historic, small scale, environmentally responsible and resident serving. ....
Laguna Beach Local News In her Left of Center column of Feb. 26, Jean Ardell responded to my letter to the Editor. She describes incidents where Dr. Rebecca Lindsey confronted Racism. Lindsey is a Black resident of Laguna and holder of a degree in Interracial Studies. One incident occurred near the Montage when an elderly, white man told Lindsey to leave the sidewalk and walk along Coast Highway instead. A bizarre, despicable remark, out of the Jim Crow South, made by a very prejudiced man; but not a racist event. Acts of racism occur when a powerful race (or perhaps religion or nationality) in a country or area, that considers itself superior to another, exerts its power through laws or the police, for instance, to mistreat the weaker race. Prejudice alone is not racism. There are people everywhere who are prejudiced against others whether Jew, Muslim, Hispanic, Black, white or the newly invented class, “privileged old white men”. ....
