Thanks to the efforts of a local Boy Scout, a court is coming to Peters Township. Ryan Deegan of Troop 1313 is working on the project to earn his Eagle Award, with plans to construct a sand volleyball court inside the stadium at the former Peters Township High School. On Monday, the school board unanimously approved his proposal. A high school sophomore and middle hitter on the boys volleyball team, Ryan came up with the idea after Tyler Fiely, the head coach, instituted an alternative form of training. âDuring quarantine in the summer of 2020, when we were unable to hold indoor practices, Coach Fiely scheduled drop-ins at a sand volleyball court in Upper St. Clair,â Ryan told the school board. âNot only was sand practice fun, but it made us work harder and become stronger, both physically and as teammates.â ....
