Clearwater council picks five finalists in city manager search The city will host the candidates for interviews and a community forum the week of June 14. [ Tracey McManus ] Updated 1 hour ago CLEARWATER â The City Council on Monday took a significant step towards finding a successor for City Manager Bill Horne, who is preparing to retire after 20 years, by narrowing its list of candidates to five finalists. Last week the search firm Baker Tilly delivered a list of 10 semi-finalists from the 91 applications. After one withdrew, the council picked their top five from the nine candidates. ....

Talking with Claira, who’s 16, they decided to make it about more than that. The girls sent surveys to friends, asking what they wished they knew, and enlisted a mentor, attorney Jill Goldsmith. Claira and Alexandra started EmpowHerX, a group to empower high school girls with real-life skills in self-defense, finance, career preparation, cultural awareness and leadership. They met virtually for the first time in August with financial adviser Stephanie Ellsworth and then with female experts in nutrition, college admissions and law. Three female entrepreneurs gave the girls advice about how to turn their ideas into businesses. ....
