WWNY Agency salutes law enforcement by handing out free lunches By Brendan Straub | May 12, 2021 at 2:52 PM EDT - Updated May 12 at 8:52 PM
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - In a tribute to north country law enforcement, the Victims Assistance Center in Watertown handed out free lunches to area police, drive-thru style on Wednesday.
It was to show appreciation during National Police Week.
VAC officials say, with support from law enforcement, they were able to respond to 1,600 calls in 2020.
“Our staff is dispatched with law enforcement to a call to provide services to the victim, and without the collaborative approach with law enforcement, we couldn’t do our job or serve the victims that are in need during a crisis and trauma,”

Australian banks have shut or earmarked the closure of almost 300 branches since the pandemic accelerated consumers’ switch to online banking.
Many branches that initially had temporarily closed during the height of the pandemic will never reopen and some communities have been left with no local bank.
Mortlake residents Doug Parker, Kelvin Goodall, Jill Parker and Rosalie Goddard are upset at the closure of their only bank leaving them with an over 40-kilometre journey to the nearest town with an ATM.
What I ve missed most, I think, over the past year, is eating outside with family and friends.
My long life has been punctuated with picnics, barbecues, cocktails and parties on lawns, terraces, at the beach, in the park, half-way up a mountain or in the woods. I can t wait to get back to some of that.
Just to sit on the terrace with my brother and his wife, drink in one hand, something delicious in the other, will feel like freedom at last.
And I know, come June, we will be desperate to have a summer garden party to make up for all the things we ve missed our birthdays, moving house, Easter and Christmas, our annual family sports day.
