Apr 6, 2021 GIRARD Wanda Louise Barth, 96, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 3, 2021, at Hospice House of the Valley, surrounded by her loving family. Wanda was a 1942 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. She was a member of St. Rose Parish and the Altar and Rosary Society. Wanda worked at Western Union and at the downtown Youngstown Strouss’. She was a stay-at-home mom who loved to cook and bake for her family. Wanda loved and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband, Fred (Fritz) whom she married May 24, 1952, passed away Nov. 25, 1995. She is survived by daughter, Connie Morris, and son, Lawrence (Gloria) Barth; grandson, Michael (Lindsay) Morris; great-grandchildren, Caidan and Emerson Morris; and grandson Matthew Morris. ....
Feb 12, 2021 AUSTINTOWN Bettie Norman, 71, formerly of Girard, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Bettie was born June 5, 1949, in Warren, a daughter of the late Clifford and Mary Williamson Norman. Bettie was a graduate of McDonald High School and worked for General Electric. Bettie was witty with a good sense of humor, a very bubbly person, and had many friends. Prior to being at Austinwoods, Bettie loved to go shopping and to go out to eat, and enjoyed reading, traveling and makeup; however, what she enjoyed most of all was spending time with her family and friends. Bettie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. ....

The board voted 4-0 Tuesday to not forward the cases to the sheriff’s office. In the election, 16 people voted at the board’s early voting center and then by mail, and 25 more voted either at the center or by mail and then went to their polling locations to vote again. All of the double votes were detected, said Stephanie Penrose, board director. “It was more confusion than trying to vote twice,” she said. Board Chairman Mark Alberini added the board doesn’t “have any strong evidence or indications this was an attempt at fraudulent voting.” At its Jan. 12 meeting, the board voted to get a formal written opinion on the issues from the county prosecutor’s office. ....
NILES Penny O. Robison, 69, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2021. She was born March 20, 1951, in Youngstown, the daughter of Andrew and Pearl Williams Popp. Survivors include her children, Jennifer Burke, Jamilyn Pounds, Jonathan Juvancic and Drew Robison; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Robison. Per Penny’s request, there will be no services at this time. Burial will be in Girard City Cemetery.
