India shouldn't deprive Sikhs of Kartarpur Sahib as it directly impacts Sikh psyche, says Giani Harpreet Singh

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—As the one-sided ban on the Kartarpur corridor today entered into the second year, SGPC appointed officiating Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh released a video message asking the Indian government to reopen this historic corridor for the Sikhs.
Notably, the Kartarpur corridor has been lying closed since March 16 last year due to restrictions imposed by the Indian government under the garb of preventive measures against Covid-19.
“The prayers of the Sikh community had borne fruit last year with the construction of Kartarpur corridor and thousands of Sikhs paid obeisance at historic Sikh shrine Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib via this corridor,” he said. ....

Fill column of ethnicity with 'Sikh', not 'Indian' in census: Akal Takht Sahib to UK Sikhs

London Trafalgar Square
As Sikh organizations and gurdwaras are making the Sikhs living in the United Kingdom (UK) aware of their ethnic identity and encouraging them not to classify ethnically as “Indian” in the online census, the Akal Takht Sahib has also asked the community members to fill the column related to ethnicity with “Sikh”, not “India”.
The Census is commencing on March 21. As few days are left for it, the Sikh leaders in Britain are on their toes to alert the community and convince them that mentioning themselves as “Sikh” in this column will help the community get rid of many problems and establish a distinct identity in the world. ....

Uncertainly prevails over reopening of the Kartarpur corridor, which provides Indian pilgrims visa-free access to the last resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak in Kartarpur, Pakistan, even as its closure in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic completed one year on Tuesday.
This despite the fact that members of the Sikh community have made scores of appeals to the Union government to reopen it so as to offer prayers at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, located just 4 kilometers from the international border.
Dedicated to the 550th Parkash Gurpurb (birth anniversary) of Guru Nanak, the corridor was inaugurated by the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan on November 9, 2019. The corridor remained operational for only four months before governments of both countries closed it to curb the virus spread. Even during those four months, several controversies cast shadow over it, ....
