Making trips to New York has always brought about stirring emotions. You just cannot wait to get there, Manhattan being one of the most electrifying places there is. London, Paris and Rome each has its own uniqueness, but “the City” is unsurpassed when it comes to getting a buzz when you walk down the street. An annual trip in December, until COVID-19 hit, was on my calendar since the mid-70s. Lyle Mays Nov. 27, 1953-Feb. 10, 2020 The jazz pianist is best known for his work recording with the Pat Metheny Group, though he lent his considerable chops beyond the group, too. He died at age 66 after what relatives said was a long and recurring illness. As a student at the University of North Texas in the 1970s, Mays composed and arranged the music for the One Oâclock Lab Bandâs album Lab â75, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. Mays went on to be nominated for 23 Grammys, and won 11 as a member of the Pat Metheny Group, which was known for its jazz fusion music. Mays also found his talents charmed critics and fans alike after recording his first solo album, for which he picked up a Grammy nomination as well. Mays made five solo albums, and co-composed the music for the movie ....
On Wednesday, November 25, 2020 Jerry Ray Snider (Dadoh) gained his wings and was returned to the Lord at age 78. A loving father and grandfather, leaving behind his only son James Robert Snider and granddaughter, Raianna Snider Wilson (Ray). Jerry was born on July 9, 1944 to the proud parents, Vergie and Howard Snider. They raised 6 children. Civilians will recognize Jerry best by his infectious sense of humor, and thank him for his years of service in the military. He was a member of the American Legion Post 255. His family knew him as a kind, giving and compassionate spirit. He could tell a good long entertaining war story. He grabbed life by the lapels, kissed it and swung it back onto the dance floor. He was a boot-scoot-boogie and avid country music lover. ....
