Crepe stall closed to stop spread of coronavirus in queues takes fight to stay open to court


A crepe stall closed down by the council over fears massive queues would help spread coronavirus has taken to the high court to fight to stay open.
Landlord of the King William IV pub, Jimmy McGrath, hired a barrister to argue his case after his business La Creperie was closed following complaints from those living nearby.
La Creperie, which opened in November, is just yards away from La Creperie de Hampstead - a 40-year-old business popular with celebrities including Kate Moss and Harry Styles.
Queues at both crepe businesses had started to clog the pavement in the affluent area of Hampstead in north London and concerned residents called the police. ....

A Hampstead Town councillor says the closure of the creperies was “undesirable but unavoidable” after “hellish” queues around Perrin’s Lane.
Cllr Oliver Cooper, the leader of Camden Council’s Conservative opposition, said residents had been left scared to leave their homes amid fears over a lack of social distancing.
La Crêperie de Hampstead and its next-door neighbour – backed by the King William IV pub – were closed by Camden Council after being ruled a “significant risk” of transmitting Covid. ....

“But we know this is a pandemic and this is very serious, and that is why we did everything to protect staff and customers.”  
Rédouane said he didn’t know when his creperie would be allowed to reopen, adding: “If this is due to Covid and the queues, the council should close all of Hampstead.  
“We don’t understand why it is only us when we did everything to protect people.”
