Elaine Claire Soukup, 78, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at the Oak Ridge Manor in Brownwood, Texas. Elaine was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Clarence and Norma (Bartos) Soukup of Dillonvale, Ohio. Elaine graduated from Dillonvale High School and Kent State University. She began her career teaching home economics in the Cadiz and Indian Creek School Districts in Ohio. She loved teaching young people how to cook, sew, and manage their money, plus many of the other skills they would need to start their lives as adults. Throughout her childhood and youth, and also while teaching, Elaine helped in her parents’ small home-town bakery. She always commented that her dad made the best pastries, breads, and pies, and that she wished she could bake as well as he did. If that is true, then her dad must have been a master baker, as Elaine was an excellent one herself. Elaine always made baked goods as Christmas presents for all of her friends during the holidays ....
Fraser Public Schools band nationally recognized again Advertisement FRASER It’s been a glorious decade for music at Fraser Public Schools. In April the district, for the 10th consecutive year, was recognized as one of the best communities for music education by the nonprofit National Association of Music Merchants, or NAMM, Foundation. A total of 686 national school districts received such recognition. The COVID-19 pandemic played a major role in the lives of everybody, including teenage musicians who are normally accustomed to playing music together. NAMM said that although virtual schooling or mask requirements became a norm for a while, “K-12 music teachers have found creative solutions to make music come alive.” ....

The Harrisburg Keystone Rotary Club hosted a free vision exam clinic at Harrisburg Brethren in Christ Church over the weekend for those who couldn t schedule appointments during the COVID-19 pandemic. The clinic ran from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. We really wanted to try to do something to help meet the basic needs of the community during COVID, said Jim Rodgers, treasurer and board member of the Harrisburg Keystone Rotary Club. It certainly became true and clear to us with how quickly the appointment times we had filled up, said Rodgers. ....
