Photo courtesy: Massachusetts Maritime Academy MATTAPOISETT Shannon Finning, a Mattapoisett School Committee and Joint School Committee member, tendered her resignation from both boards in a written statement read by Selectman Jordan Collyer during the Mattapoisett Select Board meeting on July 20. In the letter, Finning cited issues with School Committee Chairman Jim Muse as the reason she was no longer willing to serve on the board. “I am unwilling to serve a body that continues to select a chair who has treated me, personally, with disrespect and, of more concern, has, in my opinion, demonstrated unwillingness to hear from all constituents and effectively engage and communicate with parents and families in particular,” she said in the letter. ....

Photo by: Aidan Pollard MATTAPOISETT The voters have decided: Jodi Lynn Bauer will be Mattapoisett’s newest Select Board member. Of the 5,593 eligible voters in town, 1,994 about 35.7% turned out to vote in Tuesday’s Town Election. Bauer won retiring Board Chair Paul Silva’s seat with 1,154 votes. Her competitor, Nicki Demakis, earned 821 votes. There were no write-ins, but 19 voters left the ballot question blank. ....
Aidan Pollard May 12, 2021 MATTAPOISETT Town Election will be on May 18, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Old Hammondtown School, with 11 elected offices and a question on the ballot. Leading the ballot is the race for the newly renamed Select Board, between Nicki Demakis and Jodi Lynn Bauer. The two are vying for Paul Silva’s position on the board, as he chose not to seek another term. Two positions on the Mattapoisett School Committee are open: Incumbent Jim Muse’s seat, for which he is seeking reelection, and a seat left open by Carol Clifford, who chose not to run for reelection. ....
Photo Courtesy: Jim Muse MATTAPOISETT From raising his two sons in town to his nine years on the School Committee, Jim Muse has been involved with the Old Rochester Regional School District in some form for 30 years. An incumbent and chairman, he’s running for another three-year term on the Mattapoisett School Committee. Muse said he wants to be a “resource to the town.” “And I mean the entire town,” he added. Muse believes the schools impact the community at large “The tentacles of the schools go far beyond just the schools,” he said. Muse, also a member of the ORR School Committee, has been in public service for decades. He serves on the Board of Directors for YMCA Southcoast, and he was a trustee at the Southern New England School of Law, before it became part of UMass Dartmouth. ....
