A few days back, Jim Budd posted a round up of his favorite articles from the new satirical drinks site, Fake Booze. I’d definitely add even a few more in there as the humor valves have been opened quite wide since this site launched with a great deal of content that takes on all that is dumb, pompous, or needlessly stupid in the drinks works. Looking at the Twitter account last week, I noticed that it was started back in May of 2020. Thinking I had a scoop, I reached out to them to see if they wanted to do an interview for their one-year anniversary. As it turns out, the site launched in September of 2020 so I’m a touch early, but decided to roll with it anyways as what better manner to celebrate the website’s anniversary than with a fake one? ....
In 1927 on May 18 the Kelly flood wiped out that little town. The following is an account of what happened as told by Anne Kent, who witnessed the event. Her son, Donald Kent, interviewed her for this story in 1966. A big thank you goes to Dawn Kent, granddaughter of Anne Kent, who gave me permission to print this interview: Before the flood came to wash our town out, we had bought the store in Kelly from Mrs. Strober. She suggested that Raymond take the examination for the post office, which he did. I had been clerking for Mr. Strober so it worked out pretty well. He could work on his books in the post office and I could put stuff on the shelves and order things. We went ahead and bought the store in 1926. ....
Germany-Atlanta Collaboration Spotlights ‘Forgotten’ Bauhaus Designer’s Legacy Hin Bredendieck studied at the Bauhaus in Germany and later became founding director of the Georgia Tech School of Industrial Design. Hin Bredendieck spent the latter half his life in Atlanta, where he was founding director of Georgia Tec Germany’s famed Now, a collaboration between the Georgia Tech Library and German art historians is shedding more light on his formative years and the roundabout journey that brought him to Atlanta as an educator.
